Day 1

Reykjavik

Welcome to Reykjavik and the start of your Icelandic adventure! Take the included FLYBUS transfer from the airport to our hotel in Reykjavik. The remainder of the day is at leisure so why not go for a walk around the city – the beauty of Reykjavik is you can see many of the top sights in a very short space of time.

Day 2

Reykjavik & Reykjanes

Reykjavik - Reykjanes Peninsula - Hvolsvollur. At 9am this morning we depart on a bus tour of Reykjavik, Iceland's capital. We drive past the impressive Harpa building, famous sun voyager statue and Hofdi House on the sea front. From here we visit the iconic Hallgrimskirkja Church and take a look inside before our last stop is the famous Perlan building. Opt to walk around the viewing platform for superb views across the city (entrance fee applies for viewing platform approx ISK490).

We also visit the charming fishing village of Hafnarfjorour. This afternoon, drive to the Reykjanes peninsula, famous for hot springs, picturesque mountains, bird cliffs, lighthouses and quaint fishing villages.

The next two nights are spent at Hotel Eyjafjallajökull, located in the countryside of South Iceland with a view over the mountain and volcanic range of Eykjafjallajökull, famous for its 2010 eruption. This remote location, away from light pollution, and set in a peaceful surrounding is ideal for seeing the Northern Lights. This evening we settle down to watch a fascinating documentary about the famous volcanic eruption of 2010, which caused flight chaos worldwide. Later on we enjoy a short Northern Lights photography lecture before heading outside to hopefully see them in all their glory.
Overnight: Hvolsvollur  |  Breakfast

Day 3

Southern Waterfalls & Beaches

This morning we head along the south coast and reach the active volcano that is beneath the Eyjafjallajokull glacier. We stop at the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which is 65 metres high and plunges from the mountain. We'll then take a short walk to discover the 'secret waterfall' of Gljufrabui, hidden within a canyon. Next we visit one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country; the 62 metre high Skogafoss waterfall. The tour continues further south where you can stroll on the black lava beach to see the amazing bird cliffs at Reynisfjara near Vík.

This evening we enjoy a delicious traditional Icelandic dinner and then spend the evening learning more about the Northern Lights. Head outside once again to hopefully spot this phenomena for a second time whilst we relax in the hot tubs.
Overnight: Hvolsvollur  |  Breakfast, Dinner

Day 4

Golden Circle

Hvolsvollur - Golden Circle - Reykjavik. This morning we head for the iumpressive Gullfoss, a double waterfall that tumbles 34 metres into the Hvita River. Next, we visit the Geysir geothermal fields, where we'll find a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools. The original geyser is now dormant but has been replaced by Strokkur "the Churn" which erupts at 5-10 minute intervals. We end the day at Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a place where you move between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. We return to Reykjavik early in the evening.

The tour was amazing, our guide was perfect, very knowledgeable and friendly. The pace of the tour was great and it allowed enough free time to explore but not too much in certain areas where you could feel bored. Overall a great holiday.

He was a wonderful guide -- full of pertinent information and humor. He kept us informed and entertained throughout the trip.

In addition, he was very attentive to our needs.

We could not have asked for a better tour guide.

We had a lovely time in Iceland. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The small group size was also a bonus!

I typically don't schedule tours, and was concerned that this trip would feel too tour like if that makes sense, but I was so happy from start to finish.

Caroline, who assisted us throughout the booking process, was also awesome! I would consider using OTG again in the future. Booking through OTG took so much of the hassle out of planning during a busy time of the year, and made for a true vacation.
