Welcome to St Petersburg and the start of your city break! Upon arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel for check-in with an English speaking guide. The rest of the evening is free for you to do as you please - why not consider making arrangements to visit the ballet or theatre?

The Hermitage Collection
An enchanting city with a rich and fascinating history, St Petersburg is the Jewel in Russia’s Imperial Crown. It was from here that the aristocrat tsars ruled over Russia for two centuries until the Russian Revolution in 1917. First thing this morning we will visit Peter and Paul Fortress, which was once used as a political prison housing the likes of Dostoevsky and Lenin’s older brother, Alexander. Here you will also find the SS Peter and Paul Cathedral, the final resting place of the Romanov family.
Situated on the banks of the River Neva and partly housed in the breathtaking Winter Palace, is the world famous Hermitage collection - one of the world's largest art collections. The collection offers a broad range of exhibits including Asian and European art, prehistoric art and the awe inspiring treasury collection. There are also countless works from the Masters such as Van Gogh, Picasso and Matisse. This afternoon enjoy a guided tour of the Hermitage, where you will be taken to see the highlights of this incredible collection.

Free Time or Optional Arrangements
Today you can enjoy a day at leisure exploring St Petersburg independently. Wander down Nevsky Prospekt, see the Bronze Horseman, visit the brightly coloured Church on Spilled Blood or perhaps climb the steps of St Isaacs, one of the world's largest cathedrals. You can also head to Yusupov's Palace on the banks of the Moika River and enjoy an audio guide. This beautiful 18th century palace was once the residence of the Yusupov's, the richest family in Russia and the site of the most legendary and mysterious episodes in Russian history occurred - the murder of Rasputin in 1916. Follow the story of this self-proclaimed holy man with alleged super natural powers, who ruined the reputation of the Romanov family. You can also visit the hidden room where after numerous attempts, he was eventually murdered.All of these attractions are easily accessible from the city centre.

Peterhof, Tsarskoye Selo & Catherine Palace Visit the amazing royal residences of the Russian Tsars, located on the outskirts of St Petersburg and enjoy views of the Russian countryside en route. Take a guided tour around the beautiful summer gardens at Peterhof in summer and Catherine Palace at Tsarkoe Selo in winter.
Both palaces were destroyed during the war and have been recently restored to their former glory. Peterhof boasts one of the largest fountains in the world and the amazing geometrical design of the gardens was inspired by the park at Versailles. Whilst the sumptuous Catherine Palace, has a stunning baroque facade and is home to the lavish Amber Room, made from several tonnes of amber.
